My October Reading List

Hi Pals,

I guess it’s a bit late to share my October reading list. But I’ll do it anyway.

So here we go

Blanche On The Lam By Barbara Neely

The first on my list is Blanche on the lam. The author is Barbara Neely. This is the first book out of the four book in the series.

Book Details.

Blanche White is a plump, feisty, middle-aged African-American housekeeper working for the genteel rich in North Carolina. But when an employer stiffs her, and her checks bounce, she goes on the lam, hiding out as a maid for a wealthy family at their summer home. That plan goes awry when there’s a murder and Blanche becomes the prime suspect. So she’s forced to use her savvy, her sharp wit, and her old-girl network of domestic workers to discover the truth and save her own skin. Along the way, she lays bare the quirks of southern society with humor, irony, and a biting commentary that makes her one of the most memorable and original characters ever to appear in mystery fiction.

What I Think Of The Book

I haven’t read this book despite it’s the first on my reading list. I love mystery books and this book seems to be a complete package. Mystery and humor is definitely what I am saving for the last.

I think I already love Blanche. Nothing makes me happier than reading stories about courageous women. Her efforts to save herself is also incredible. I mean, no one loves to die but she seems to be making an escort to live free and happy. Tell me about a story or a fiction character you still adore.

Entangled By Arden Hall

Book Description

Two Heads. One school. No regrets.

November always hated the people at her boarding school. Including her crush, Christian Dumont. He knew how to push her buttons and did things to her no other person would dare try.

As the Head Girl, she was supposed to be an example to other students. But something about Christian made her misbehave. When he pushed, she pushed back. When he shouted, she did it louder. Like cats and dogs, the two ran in circles, trying to outdo one another.

Until Christian’s world gets rocked by a scandal and he finds himself knocking on November’s door.

What I Think Of The Book

I particularly like this book because it’s teen fiction. Arden did a great job with this book. The characters, the plot and the simplicity of the book is just amazing.

My favorite character is definitely November. I’m obsessed with her personality. Not entirely everything but I love that she was able to face her past with a stronger fist and a less emotional heart.

I read lots of comments saying that November was heartless. But please they should give her a break. She was an orphan who was facing troubles from all corners of the world. She had a best friend who was mean to her and wanted to be the head girl.

I don’t want to ruin the book for those who would love to read it. But trust me, you would also learn to love November Lace.

Dial A For Aunties By Jesse Q

Book Description

When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body. Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline. It’s the biggest job yet for the family wedding business—”Don’t leave your big day to chance, leave it to the Chans!”—and nothing, not even an unsavory corpse, will get in the way of her auntie’s perfect buttercream flowers.

But things go from inconvenient to downright torturous when Meddy’s great college love—and biggest heartbreak—makes a surprise appearance amid the wedding chaos. Is it possible to escape murder charges, charm her ex back into her life, and pull off a stunning wedding all in one weekend?

What I Think Of The Book

Jesse must have clearly written this book a little tipsy or drunk. I find this book extremely hilarious and extraordinary. With everyone writing about cliche werewolves and romance, I think she did an incredible job of creating something unique..

What I can’t seem to appreciate in this book is Meddelin’s attempt to charm her ex back into life. I as a person, I would say its a disgusting attempt. Well, everyone has a different opinion about things.

So if you want to crack up while journeying through crazy mysteries, then you should read this book. It did have this one effect on me.

A Push By Ashley Audrain

Book Description

Fans of psychological thrillers, crack open this one about the relationship between mothers and daughters. Before Blythe’s daughter is born, she wants to create the deep bond she never had with her own mom. But when Violet arrives, she’s convince convincedd something’s wrong with her little girl. The tragic events that follow will make you question her sanity, and the story she’s telling us.

What I Think Of This Book

I haven’t also read this book. The description introduces a family with certain difficulties. Perhaps this book will center on some family and relationships conflicts.

Ashley is leading her readers to questions the cons of irresponsible parenthood. I certainly want to learn more.

A Crooked Tree By Una Mannion

yBook Description

One fateful night, 15-year-old Libby’s harried single mom orders her sister Ellen, 12, to get out and walk home after their bickering gets to be too much. What follows not only shatters the girls’ innocence, but sets off a chain of events that reveals the darkness in their sleepy town. This novel drives home how one moment can change everything.

What I Think Of The Book

First, I would say, why haven’t I read this book yet? I must say these books with mystery and horror all blended up can cause an entire lifetime of nightmares. Nevertheless, I love them exceptionally.
